MCM Managed Strategies
Maple Capital offers several investment strategies to meet the diverse needs of our clients. These strategies can be used as a single component of a client's portfolio or combined into a multi-asset class approach.
Equity Strategies:
- Core Equity Strategy -- Employing a discounted cash flow (DCF) methodology, our disciplined Core approach seeks to find high quality growth companies that are trading at reasonable discounts to their intrinsic values. This "growth at a reasonable price" approach helps us to find the companies that we think will create shareholder wealth in the years to come while gauging the valuation risk that is often attached to these stocks. This strategy is suitable for investors seeking the growth of common stocks and may be used in conjunction with a multi-asset class approach.
- Equity Income Strategy -- Our Equity Income approach focuses on dividend paying securities that provide investors with above average current income yields plus the opportunity for future price appreciation and dividend increases, features not available with bonds. We utilize common stocks, preferred stocks, real estate investment trust (REIT's), closed-end mutual funds, and exchange traded master limited partnerships (MLP's) within this strategy. This strategy is suitable for investors seeking high current income while still retaining the potential for price appreciation and increasing dividends that one gains with stocks.
- Diversified Equity Strategy -- Our diversified strategy can be combined with either our Core or Equity Income strategies to obtain exposure to multiple equity sub-classes, including small cap, mid-cap, international, and emerging markets. We will utilize open and closed-end mutual funds, exchange traded funds, and separately managed accounts to gain exposure to these asset classes. The vehicle selected for a given asset class will be evaulated on a number of criteria, including expenses, track record, risk metrics, and manager tenure.
Fixed Income Strategies:
- Taxable Fixed Income Strategy -- This strategy may be used for a fixed income only account or as a part of a balanced account strategy. Securities to be used include direct U.S. Treasury obligations, U.S. Agency securities, Mortgage-Backed securities (MBS), Corporate bonds, negotiable CD's and Asset-Backed securities. This is an investment grade vehicle. Portfolios may be structured to pre-fund cash flow needs. This strategy is appropriate for tax-exempt investors and investors in low tax brackets.
- Tax-Exempt Fixed Income Strategy -- This strategy may be used as part of a balanced account strategy or within a fixed income only account. Tax-free municipal bonds will be the primary instrument used with this strategy, although taxable bonds listed above may be used if appropriate on an after-tax basis. This is an investment grade vehicle although non-rated bonds may be purchased under appropriate circumstances. Portfolios may be structured to pre-fund cash flow needs. This strategy is appropriate for investors and subject to high personal tax brackets.
- Cash Management Accounts -- Cash management accounts are offered as a money market alternative for large, primarily institutional, clients. Accounts will be structured to provide the liquidity and cash flows needed for each account. There is a $2 million minimum account size for this service.

- Balanced Accounts -- Balanced accounts combine our equity strategies and the appropriate bond strategy for a given investor. Our portfolio managers work with each client to determine an appropriate asset allocation for their unique circumstances. Our portfolio management system allows us to efficiently employ this strategy across a wide range of client allocations.
- Mutual Fund Accounts -- Mutual fund only accounts are offered for satellite accounts of larger relationships. Maple Capital develops a portfolio of mutual funds to create a diversified investment vehicle for satellite accounts of larger relationship and stand alone accounts that do not meet our minimums.
- Combination Accounts -- Our Combination accounts incorporate our mutual fund analytics with our Core investment approach. The 8-10 individual equities used in these accounts are our "best idea" stocks. We offer this strategy to clients that are large enough to accept the risk of individual securities but do not have sufficient investable assets to meet our minimums.
